The ELT Career and Professional Development Conference, or ECAP, is an annual event we put on along with Cambridge University Press, STEP-Eiken, Kanda University of International Studies and the Yomiuri Newspaper. It is always held on the last Sunday of May. On May 26th, ECAP 2013, our seventh time round for this, will be held at the Kanda Foreign Language College near Kanda Station in Tokyo. Starting time is 10 a.m. This year's ECAP features presentations by Izumi Shinichi of Sophia University on 'Problems of English Education in Japan and Directions for Change' and by Tim Murphey of Kanda University of International Studies on 'Ideal Classmates in Socially Intelligent Dynamic Situations.' Plus 4 concurrently-run workshops following each keynote on related topics. The day ends with a panel discussion on implementing the new MEXT guidelines.
Our event last year featured keynote presentations by Bill Snyder of Teachers College, Columbia University on Communicative Language Classes: What can we teach? and by Kahoko Matsumoto, Chair of the English Program at Tokai University, on The role of assessment in the language classroom. It also featured workshops by Alastair Graham-Marr, Alexandore Gilmore, Steven Kirk, Katsutoshi Fukumizu, Jim George, Graham Mackenzie, Fergus O'Dwyer and Antonio Smith. The 2012 ECAP culminated in a panel discussion on the topic, What should I know as a teacher?

Abax will be once again be displaying at the annual TESOL International Convention and English Language Expo, to be held in Seattle in 2017. This is the 51st time round for this event and a coming home in part for Abax as it was at Seattle in 1998 that we first ever put up a display at TESOL. This time round you can find Abax as part of the Engish Central display. If you're planning on attending from Japan (or from anywhere else for that matter!), please stop by and say, 'Hello!'
