【Test Title】
This past year saw us publish two resources for teachers. The Coursebook and Beyond: Choosing, Using and Teaching Outside the Text by Fiona Copland and Steve Mann is a book that looks at the central role played by the coursebook in most language courses, at some of the curricular ideas behind a coursebook, at the different ways a coursebook may go about implementing these and at how teachers can go about adapting and augmenting a text to better attain the goals of a course. The resource has been written both for use by the individual teacher and for use in teacher training courses. Another book with this same dual use is Teaching in Pursuit of Wow! Two Decades of Musings on Maximizing Learning Potential by Tim Murphey. This is a collection of essays in which he asks, in terms of interaction, in terms of identity, in terms of how we do things, how do we get students to plug in to the wow! of learning? Whether you're experienced or a new teacher or teacher to be, both books raise issues and make suggestions that you might be able to benefit from.
As well as our own resources for teachers and for teachers of children, in Japan Abax also carries resources from two other publishers. We carry Helbling Languages' innovative Resourceful Teachers series with its interesting collection of titles, including two ELTons shortlisted texts, and ELB Publishing's collection of reissued classics, books too good to be allowed to go out of print. Perhaps there is something here for your school or your personal library?
